Will Goal-Setting Help You Get What You Want?
Goal-setting is a simple process that consists of only 4 steps. The first step is to define your goals. One commonly used method to do this is to write your goals down somewhere. They can be written in your diary, your blog, stick-it pad or even your bathroom door!
Have you noticed that each time you go to the supermarket with a lengthy shopping list, you are able to buy what you need by going down that list? Whether it is just 5 or 50 items, it works.
Strictly speaking, although you do not need to write every single goal down, writing down your goals will help you tremendously. In fact, it has 3 purposes.
Firstly, it helps you to crystallize your dreams. Secondly, it reminds you of your goals and guides you back on track when you are distracted. Thirdly, it helps you to achieve your goals systematically.
On the other hand, you can also “write” your goals down in your conscious or sub-conscious mind. But this means that you have to be aware of your goals at all times and you must not get lost when negativity surrounds you. So, writing you goals in black and white is still the preferred method.
But why do we need to set goals in the first place? Simple. If you do not have a crystal clear idea of what you want to achieve, most probably you are not going to achieve it. Most people make the mistake of not having a clear idea of what they want to get hold in life.
What is your motive in life? What do you want to accomplish? Want to get a promotion? Want to be financially free? Want to lose weight? Want to get healthier etc?
Before you put in any effort, you must know what you want and set them as your goals.
You know what? Most people do set their goals. But mostly within a month or two, they have forgotten about them and gone are their dreams and goals.
So, written goals serve as an alarm clock and always remind us of what we want. Besides that, being aware of your goals also has one big advantage. You will be constantly motivated to chase and achieve your goals. Studies have shown that those who have a good reason to achieve their goals tend to be more motivated than those who lack a clear reason.
It is not that difficult to write down your goals on a piece of paper! Stick them up and get yourself reminded everyday. I am sure you will be able to achieve your goals if you are motivated enough. It is a matter of whether you believe in yourself and go all out to get it.
